Prayer Boxes (also called Wish Boxes) make great collectibles as they come in so many shapes, sizes and materials. Originally designed to hold prayers on tiny slips of paper, Prayer Boxes are now worn primarily as jewelery or used to hold keepsakes of special sentimental value.
Prayer Boxes may have screw top lids or may open with a traditional latch mechanism, but they are all containers of some sort regardless of the size, type, or method of construction.
Prayer Boxes have used by many faiths to hold prayers or religious objects for many hundreds of years. Hindus may place a Rudraksha seed in a prayer box, Christians a mustard seed, and Buddhists often place scrolls printed with prayers or sacred symbols into Prayer Boxes.
In modern times, Prayer Boxes have become popular charms and are often used to hold a lock of hair or a favorite keepsake of any kind. When used for secular purposes, Prayer Boxes are often called Wish Boxes.
However you use them or whatever you call them, these special little boxes are a treasure unto themselves and a pleasure to own and keep.
