I have sterling silver jewelery that I just cant keep clean and I usually end up using toothpaste and brushing it clean, does anybody know any other ways to clean it and keep it clean and shiney?
What does the number on the back of my sterling silver earrings mean?

sterling silver
I have a sterling silver chain that gets horribly discolored when I wear it (it must be my skin or something.)
I’ve found the easiest way to clean it and bring back the shine is a little baking soda, very little water, and an old soft toothbrush.
After you have it all polished up, use an old t shirt to buff it and shine it. Stay away from paper towels, they might scratch it!

I dump baking soda onto a old rag and rub it onto the silver until it’s shiny. It will turn the rag black but it will wash out if you need to reuse it.

Most jewelry stores just use Tarn-X to clean it. You can find it in any store. Also, purchase a silver cleaning cloth to buff the jewelry.

Silver jewelry dip.You soak it in the container with the solution for about a minute pull it out and brush it with the little brush that comes with it, then rise it in warm water and let it air dry or dry it with a soft cloth. I think the brand is called Connoisseurs. There are also silver anti-tarnish clothes made by 3M. They look like little gray felt squares and you place them in whatever you keep the jewelry in. For example, if you have a jewelry dresser, you lay the cloths in the drawers where you have your silver at.

Here’s some advice from
I’ve tried it with some old silver cutlery, and it worked astonishingly well.

Clean the tarnish off silver objects
Materials: (tarnished silver, a pan or dish large enough to completely immerse the silver, aluminum foil to cover the bottom of the pan, boiling water, baking soda)
1. Line the bottom of the pan with aluminum foil or use a disposable aluminum pan.
2. Place silver object on top of the aluminum, making sure the silver touches the aluminum.
3. Pour boiling water into the pan until the object is completely covered.
4. Add about baking soda. (about 1/4 cup per liter or 1 cup per gallon of water).
Some people say that washing soda (instead of baking soda / bicarb soda) works even better.

See if this will help
put a sheet of aluminum foil in a shallow pan (glass) put the jewerly in the pan so that it is touching the foil put 3 Tablespoons of baking soda and warm water over jewelery let sit for overnight and dry with soft rag in AM

Toothpaste, not tooth gel, is the best cleaner. To keep it shiney longer, store in an airtight container, or a ziplock type bag with all the air squeezed out. Air oxidizes on sterling silver, making it look dull.
Hope this helps! (I have a tamborine that I have to store in airtight container or the little “cymbals” get dull looking.)

Line the bottom of a glass or stoneware bowl with a piece of aluminium foil. Place the tarnished silver on the aluminium foil.
Add 2 Tbsp baking soda and 2 cups warm water. The solution should be sufficient to cover the items. Soak for a few minutes.
Pour out the items into a colander or strainer. Rinse, dry thoroughly and shine with a polishing cloth.

Get a plastic dish, line it with aluminum foil, add a cup of hot water and a tablespoon of soda crystals, put the jewelry in and let it sit for a bit. If any dirt left in crevices, use a toothbrush with mixture on it and scrub.

There is a cloth made for cleaning jewelry, one side is for cleaning and the other is a buffing cloth to shine your jewelry, you should find this cloth near the jewelry counter

If there is a smoker in the house get a damp soft cloth and dip it in the ashtray, wrap a section of the rag around your index finger and dip it in then scrub away on the piece of jewelry buff it with a dry soft rag. At some jewelry stores they have a rag that is for cleaning sterling silver usually costs about 10.00.
